Fatphobia Hasn’t Gone Anywhere — And We All Need To Be Rebuking It Every Chance We Get

I was asked to create an illustration to accompany a story on fatphobia topics that have persistently popped up in the media for the last several months. The writer highlights the effect of COVID-19 /Anti Blackness and other issues and how it shows up in lack of care for the community.

My approach was to illustrate fat bodied Black women simply existing - their landscapes and environments warping around them. As this is something I struggled with personally, I wanted to show to women empowered and not depressed or beaten down by the pervasive fat phobia in media.
